Emily's birthday
No more arguments over who gets to drive!
Now I need to accompany both children on my bicycle and act like a police outrider to keep the other traffic on the road safe from these two speed merchants.

WHERE ARE THE PROMISED PICTURES OF MY CHILDREN?
I was promised family photos if I posted garden piccies. How difficult is it to point a digital camera and shoot? It's not as if I'm asking the USCIS to provide me with pictures; just as well as that would take hundreds of days!
Point, click, download, email - et voila! Get to it PJ
More garden piccies to show good faith :-)

I have been promised pictures of my children if I upload pictures of Patty's garden in Scotland. Let's hope that the abysmal state it is in does not prejudice this arrangement!

The Turtle

Sunday I carved up a watermelon and threw the shell in our west lot for the wild animals. Today the children found them and Emily immediately spotted a turtle among them. She explained it is a robot turtle that was exploded by a superhero. To build an object from a found object is a very Patty-ish thing to do. She was always able to turn a found object to good use.
Submitted by Grandmommy, under Patty's name because that's what came up when I clicked on the Movable Type site.

Don't you just love having friends who invite you for dinner
Angie and Ivan invited me over for dinner this evening so I had the luxury of a proper meal prepared for me and it was delicious.

Be careful what you joke about.
Coming home from visiting Charlotte the other day I caught sight, out of the corner of my eye, of a red car lying in a field and commented to Patty that I hoped it wasn't my Company's car.
The next day the police phoned to ask if we still owned a red Ford escort! ... and yes, it was ours. Stolen on Saturday night and driven half a mile before taking to the air and ending up in the field. It's an insurance write off and nobody knows how or when it got stolen!

Christmas is a comin'
Emily and Andrew have been discussing their imminent flights to visit Grandmommy and Grandfather. They have also had excited conversations regarding Christmas and their expected booty from this event; we'll deal with the real meaning of Christmas gently and gradually!
Anyhoo, I thought it appropriate to venture into the loft and bring down a limited amount of Christmas parafanalia even although we are not going to be at home for much longer. The kids have certainly been appreciative and here is a picture of their Christmas stockings hanging on the fireplace.

Road out to Quothquan
11.0 miles round trip. It was a beautiful day here in the Scottish Low Lands, the Central Belt, the Southern Uplands. We packed a picnic lunch and road the bikes out to Quothquan. I confess I walked up the 11% grade of Cormiston Hill, but I did make it up Knocklea. We had a lovely picnic lunch with the Twaddles in their front garden. Jean, go take pictures of your Japaness Anemones. The worst bit was Lyndseylands Road on the way home; one little upward slope after another, all to short and low to warrent getting off and walking, but oh how the calves hurt.

Bike Riding
Dear Edith,
I finally did it. I actually road the bike with a child, Andrew, in the front loading child seat you attached two years ago. Alan has used often. We road as a family with Emily on her new half-a-bike attachment on Daddy's bike. We road all the way to Loaningdale and back.

Patty's birthday
We spent the day in Edinburgh getting new spectacles for Patty, doing some birthday shopping, and going to a new restaurant in Dalry Road, Edinburgh called The Sizzling Scot. If you're ever in Edinburgh we can recommend that you try this place because, unlike many (most?) establishments in the UK they seem to have got the right idea regarding customer service and also, shock horror, they know how to cook and present food!
More pictures of birthday girl, birthday cake, and excited children desperate to eat cake can be found at Mommy's Birthday

Camping in Scotland
It is 10.50pm, it's blowing a gale and it's pouring with rain. My children are asleep beside me and I'm typing on a notebook computer in a tent in my back yard.
Proof definitive that I'm losing the place!
Anyway, the kids have enjoyed their adventure thus far and I just hope they will sleep through the night undisturbed .... but aren't pidgeons noisy birds and where is that cow that keeps mooing?
I've uploaded some pictures to TartanTed.com to prove how mad the Scottish Albins really are; although I should point out that the Texan amongst us has chosen to sleep in the house tonight.

Vindolanda
With Windy back on the road we returned Dick's hire car yesterday and all set off this morning for Hadrian's wall. Luck was with us and the weather was perfect; warm and breezy. We picniced at Vindolanda and then all walked to the Housesteads hill fort, yes, even Andy managed to walk all the way up to the top!

Family Picture

I am testing a change I made to the file upload feature.
Just a week into using the blog, I was finding uploaded files all over the place. Part of this is my fault, because I had asked that we put them into a directory called pics2005 so that things would be need and tidy on the file side. Wrong! There were at least three pics2005, Pics2005, pic2005 etc.... So now it is automated. You just add your file and don't worry about typing in a directory.
